Amidst the shrieks and stench of the dead and dying, four strangers – a blood-stained Girl, a foul-mouthed Sailor, a tyrannical Aristocrat, and his burn victim Wife – are quarantined in a room during the Plague. Violence and sexual awakenings abound, as social formalities and class distinctions break down through paranoia and fear. Winner of the 1996 Susan Smith Blackburn Prize and featured at the Humana Festival.
“The three-planks-and-a-passion impulse [is] out in full force [with] the belligerently youthful Project Y.”
