Deepa Purohit graduated from Brooklyn College with an MFA in Playwriting in 2020.  She’s been a member of Ma-Yi Writers Lab since 2014 and co-founded and ran Rising Circle Theater Collective (www.risingcircle.org) for 12 years (2000-2012), overseeing the development of over 20 plays by writers of color.   She also trained and worked as an actor, holds an MPH, from Columbia University, a BA from Northwestern University and is the mother of a ninth grader.
