Roots Firmly Planted… Help us Bloom

Thank you for a wonderful season of theatre! Thanks to you, this year Project Y produced a world premiere by the incomparable American playwright Lee Blessing in a September-long run at Atlantic Stage 2. Our most daring and prominent production yet, the production featured NY veteran actors David Deblinger (HBO, LAByrinth Theatre Co founding member) and Edward James Hyland (Broadway’s Arcadia) alongside Project Y’s long time collaborators, Erika Rose and Eric Sutton, both of whom we know from our DC years. It was a beautiful reminder to us that while we are branching out, we continually draw from our roots.

As our company gains more audiences, artists, and applause, the Project Y mission to create, develop, and premiere new plays continues to shape the scope of American theatre. We need your support to begin the newest venture: the first ever Project Y Writer’s Group.

Our focus has long been on the playwright- and this year, we are adding a new branch to the Project Y tree: a writer-led company of 10-12 playwrights (admitted through a nation-wide submission process) who will write, nurture, revise and showcase their plays over the course of this year. It is an extremely ambitious venture, led by our new addition Literary Manager Lia Romeo. It is a re-affirmation of our mission to support new work and emerging writers by investing in the rehearsal room. We are firmly planted within the New York City theatre community- this will ground us even more.

And on top of that, we have all of our regularly scheduled programming. In the summer of 2014, we will present Helen Hayes Award winner Renee Calarco’s The Religion Thing. We are proud to produce this New York premiere after its debut with our DC friends at Theater J and a Helen Hayes nomination for Best New Play 2013. Our 2014 reading series is Techno Plays: Plays about Technology, Science, and Human Connection. We will be filming our long-awaited Food Plays in January 2014, with another video monologue announcement and call to follow. And Project Y’s hit original musical, LoveSick, or THINGS THAT DON’T HAPPEN, will be touring different venues in and around NYC for limited performances in early 2014. Our calendar is fuller than it has ever been- and we want you to be a part of it.
