Women in Theatre Festival 2019 Announcement

Posted by MB - November 12, 2018

We are pleased to announce that this year’s 4th Annual Women in Theatre Festival will take place June 2019 at the A.R.T./New York Theatres (53rd Street and 10th Avenue, NYC) in the Gural Theatre. Project Y was lucky enough to be part of the inaugural season of the A.R.T./New York Theatres for our 2nd WIT Festival back in 2017 and are thrilled to return this summer with an incredible lineup of new works by women.

The lineup includes:

The Three Musketeers 1941, a new, female-focused adaptation by playwright, Megan Monaghan Rivas (South Coast Rep Theatre, Pacific Playwrights Festival), co-directed by Michole Biancosino & Andrew W. Smith (Project Y’s co-founding Artistic Directors)

Sleeping Beauty, a commissioned adaptation by playwright, Amina Henry (author of last year’s hit, Cindy and the critically acclaimed Hunter John and Jane at JACK).

The Hrostwitha Project: commissions of the play Calimachus, originally written by the first female playwright during the 10th century. Now adapted by modern women writers including Kelley Nicole Girod (The Fire This Time Festival), Laura Pittenger (Sheen Center), Eliza Bent (Abrons Arts Center, JACK), and Suzanne Bradbeer (TheatreWorks).

The Violet Sisters, a reading of the play by Gina Femia (Winner Leah Ryan Prize, Doric Wilson Playwright Award).

Whip it Up Wendy! a production of the one woman show by Tasha Gordon-Solmon (Actors Theatre of Louisville, Clubbed Thumb, Ars Nova).

Argument Sessions, a cabaret production of the verbatim theatre piece by Ilana Becker (Ars Nova).

Stay tuned for more updates!
